From CO₂ reduction to local impact: how Matera’s cement plant delivers a win-win story at Global CemFuels.

The real winning practices are those that meet the needs of all stakeholders. Including the Planet. As in the case of Heidelberg Materials’ cement plant in Matera, where – thanks also to our storage, dosing and feeding systems – the facility will increase the substitution of fossil fuels with alternative fuels up to 90%, more than 20 years ahead of the decarbonization roadmap outlined by CEMBUREAU, the European Cement Association.

But that’s not all. The zero-km supply of SRF ensures energy cost savings for the plant while avoiding landfilling or incineration of non-recyclable waste. This reduces waste management costs for the surrounding area and fosters the development of a virtuous local circular economy.

A true win-win story, which our CEO Pier Cella Mazzariol will present at the 18th Global CemFuels 2025, the world’s leading conference on alternative fuels.
