Entsorga is strengthening its presence in the European anaerobic digestion market with the launch of a new project in Poland.
The joint venture between Entsorga S.p.A. and Instal Warszawa S.A. has signed a contract to begin construction of the anaerobic digestion section of the organic waste treatment plant at the MKUO ProNatura Sp. z o.o. intermunicipal complex in Bydgoszcz. From the signing date, we have 28 months to complete the order.
The project represents a key intervention in modernizing the existing infrastructure and improving municipal waste management in the region.
Objective: Maximum valorization of OFMSW
The new plant will allow the transformation of OFMSW into biogas and compost, with the production of electricity and heat, making a concrete contribution to reducing the use of landfills and the energy recovery of organic waste.
The anaerobic digestion section will have a minimum capacity of 45,000 tons per year, equivalent to approximately 120 tons of food waste per day.
The tunnel composting line will also process at least 34,000 tons per year, supporting the organic fraction recovery process.
A highly engineered plant
Entsorga will provide technologies for anaerobic digestion and the transformation of digestate into fertilizer, along with the Eagle Cloud digital platform, an essential tool for ensuring maximum operational reliability and process efficiency: key elements when investing in the waste-to-energy sector.
The plant is designed to meet the highest engineering standards, both in terms of operational reliability and process efficiency, key elements of Entsorga’s approach as a technology provider in the waste-to-energy sector.
The project, with a total value of approximately 30 million euros, will be financed through a combination of grants and loans under “Measure 2.10 – Rational Waste Management and Land Protection,” dedicated to the development of urban biogas cogeneration.
Poland: An Emerging Market for Biogas and Biomethane
The signing of the contract consolidates the collaboration between Entsorga and Instal Warszawa S.A., the joint venture’s leader and a historic Polish General Contractor at the forefront of the environmental sector for over 60 years, with which Entsorga has already built an MBT biostabilization plant in Siedlce in the past.
Above all, it confirms Poland’s strategic role as an emerging market for biogas and biomethane technologies. The country currently has approximately 400 biogas plants, primarily fueled by agricultural waste, with a total capacity of approximately 300 MW, still marginal compared to the potential of the national energy system (less than 1%).
“There are positive signs for the development of renewable energy in the Polish market,” emphasizes Entsorga CEO G.F. Galanzino. “The recent legislation on the separate collection of municipal waste, which aims to reduce landfill use by up to 10% by 2035, is an important signal. High-quality organic waste is the primary requirement for efficient biogas and biomethane production, along with the use of reliable technologies capable of ensuring excellent operational performance, production continuity, and digital process management, to maintain biogas/biomethane production efficiency and significantly reduce investment risk. We are facing a young market, which is developing laws and procedures to truly support the development of renewable energy, which we believe to be very promising. And the signing of this latest contract confirms its full potential.”
