Entsorga has signed the supply contract for the biological treatment section of the Sitia Municipality plant in Crete, Greece. The supply was awarded through a public tender won by Thalis Environmental Services SA, Greece’s leading environmental infrastructure provider. With the cooperation of our partner Chemitec, leading Greek company in the field of water and liquid – solid waste treatment, we will design a Bee, our largest-capacity single-reactor Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) plant. This is the first step in a much bigger planning for the construction of several facilities that will effectively mark Greece’s entry into the modern era of Municipal Solid Waste management.
“Because of its technical characteristics, the project will enable us to deal with waste management in the best possible way, following European standards as befits modern, civilized societies” stressed Sitia Mayor Giorgos Zervakis.
Specifically, the deal calls for the construction of a Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) treatment plant with a total annual capacity of 15,000 tons of mixed municipal waste and 300 tons of sludge from wastewater treatment plants in the area, in order to meet the needs of the 45,000 residents of Sitia and Ierapetra municipalities. The plant will also be designed to process 8,600 tons of presorted recyclables in the future, if needed. The system used to biostabilize and bioessify the waste will be our H.E.BIO.T.® (High Efficiency Biological Treatment), a highly efficient and highly automated process that capitalizes on our 25 years of experience and R&D on an industrial scale.
“We are very pleased to return to Greece after several years, and to do so as a technology partner in a far-reaching project, which successfully concludes a legislative process started in 2016 and initiated to definitively overcome the landfill logic and lay the foundations for a concrete transition of Greece to the circular economy” commented our CEO G.F. Galanzino.
